Project Mission
ARTurn's primary purpose is to provide academic teachers in elementary, middle and Sunday schools the tools to teach a valuable complementary art curriculum when funds are not available for a formal art teacher and program. ARTurn will provide affordable on-line art lessons for all teachers.
Impact Proposition
ARTurn will provide an affordable and accessible art curriculum for teachers in elementary, middle and Sunday schools, helping them integrate art into their daily curriculum. Individual lessons will include creative art instruction and art history lessons that will complement the academic curriculum in Math, Science and English and provide students with a creative supplement that will enrich learning, innovation, and growth.
Market Opportunity
Research reveals a great need for visual arts education in elementary and middle schools and has shown that the arts nourish sensory, emotional, and cognitive abilities. Studies have shown that students attain higher achievement levels when they are engaged in the arts. Currently some online programs exist at the college level that offer online art programs. However there is not currently a substantial online art program for elementray and middle schools or for Sunday schools.
Operating Model
ARTurn will grow its library of art-enhanced curricula by enlisting qualified U.S. based teachers to submit lessons they have developed, integrating art into their general study classes. Submissions will be encouraged by small grant subsidies awarded to selected entries. Pilot programs will be performed in select schools, with regular impact and usage assessments. Schools will pay a small subscription fee to use the program.
Coordinated By
Having taught for the Ministry of Education in Madrid, Spain, written and designed on-line accredited curriculum for middle schools and high schools, Arielle Doochin has four years of experience in curricular development and is especially proud of her art enrichment programs for low income community centers.
Needed Investment
ARTurn seeks support of art education advocates, volunteers, and funders, as it develops a platform for teachers who understand the importance of art in education. Currently in the research and development phase, ARTurn is in special need of educators who have employed the art in their classroom and are interested in sharing experiences with the community of educators.
